Questions
Good things to know
- How much does it cost to start teaching on Hearthwise?
- It is completely free to join Hearthwise as a creator. There are no upfront costs or subscription fees. We take 20% of each sale you make — you keep 80%.
- What kind of skills can I teach?
- Anything a family would genuinely want to learn from another family — cooking, baking, crafts, gardening, home repair, languages, music, life skills, budgeting, and much more. We cover 40+ skill areas. The key is that your expertise comes from lived experience, not a credential.
- Do I need professional equipment to record lessons?
- No. Most of our top creators use a smartphone and natural window light. We provide a lesson builder that walks you through structuring your content, and tips for simple, clear recording. Authenticity matters far more than production polish on Hearthwise.
- How do learners pay — per lesson or by subscription?
- Both. Learners can purchase individual lessons (you set the price, typically $5 to $25) or subscribe to a creator's full catalog. You earn 80% of every transaction either way, with payouts every two weeks.
- How long does it take for my lesson to go live?
- Our review team checks every lesson for quality and family-safety within 24 to 48 hours of submission. Once approved, your lesson is live on the marketplace and searchable immediately.
- Can kids or teenagers teach lessons?
- Yes — with a parent or guardian account as the creator of record. Some of our most popular lessons are taught by kids sharing skills like origami, coding, drawing, and Minecraft building. The parent manages payments and account settings.
